Slanted: ‘The Kissing Booth 2’ is Coming to Netflix

Netflix’s hit YA original “The Kissing Booth” is coming back with a sequel. The video streaming service confirmed “The Kissing Booth 2” today, and Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Jacob Elordi are returning for the new installment. Vince Marcello is directing the second movie, working from a screenplay that he wrote with Jay Arnold.

The original Netflix film, simply called “The Kissing Booth,” was based on the Beth Reekles’ self-published coming-of-age novel that became an international sensation. If you haven’t read the original work yet, you can find the book right here on Amazon.

The Kissing Booth 2 is currently in production and will be released on Netflix, but the company stopped short of confirming a premiere date at this time. Netflix did release a promotional video for the announcement, and fans of the original can watch that video below.

The YA drama will fit right in with “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before 2,” which is bringing back Lana Condor and Noah Centineo. That drama is also an adaptation, based on the “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy by New York Times Bestselling Author Jenny Han. Fans of Lana Condor should see “Alita: Battle Angel,” she took the role of Koyomi for that project. The film comes from director Robert Rodriguez and stars Jennifer Connelly, Eiza González, Rosa Salazar, Mahershala Ali, Michelle Rodriguez, and Christoph Waltz. “Alita: Battle Angel” will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day on February 14, 2019.

Netflix has been stacking up the YA dramas lately, but the company is also working on “Jupiter’s Legacy,” a new superhero epic from Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil, Spartacus, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The new cast list includes Josh Duhamel as Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian; Ben Daniels as Walter Sampson/Brain-Wave, Sheldon’s older brother; Leslie Bibb as Grace Sampson/Lady Liberty; and Elena Kampouris and Andrew Horton as Sheldon and Grace’s children Chloe and Brandon.
