Joel Courtney has booked the lead in a new movie!

The 24-year-old The Kissing Booth actor will star in the faith based film Jesus Revolution opposite Jim Gaffigan, reports Deadline.

The movie is inspired by the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenaged hippies in Southern California.

Joel will take on the role of Greg Laurie, “a counterculture teen in the late 1960s seeking meaning and purpose, who eventually joined the Jesus Revolution in Southern California and went on to start Harvest Christian Fellowship, one of the largest congregations in America.”

Jesus Revolution comes from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, the same producers of KJ Apa‘s recent faith based movie I Still Believe.

Jim Gaffigan, Joel Courtney To Star In ‘Jesus Revolution’ For Lionsgate & ‘I Still Believe’ Producers

EXCLUSIVEJim Gaffigan and Joel Courtney have been tapped to lead the faith-based feature Jesus Revolution for Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, producer of the Jeremy Camp biopic, I Still Believe. Written by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, and directed by Gunn, film is inspired by the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenaged hippies in Southern California.

Courtney will play Greg Laurie, a counterculture teen in the late 1960s seeking meaning and purpose, who eventually joined the Jesus Revolution in Southern California and went on to start Harvest Christian Fellowship, one of the largest congregations in America. Gaffigan is Chuck Smith, the real-life pastor of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, who served as a mentor to Greg Laurie. Chuck famously opened his church to a generation of hippies and seekers, helping to launch the last great spiritual revival in America.

“This is a distinctly American story of rebirth,” said Gaffigan. “The late 1960s and early 1970s were a time when spirituality was on the wane, leaving a lot of people searching for answers in other places. I’m excited to play a pastor who helped make a home for the people most desperate for those answers and built a congregation – a coming together of people – to make something greater than themselves.”

“When I read the script, I was very drawn to the idea of portraying a man who is completely lost within himself and seeks to find a path and purpose during a time of national turmoil,” said Courtney.

Kevin Downes and the Andrew and Jon Erwin  (a.k.a the Erwin Brothers), who collaborated with Gunn on I Still Believe, are producing the pic. Jerilyn Esquibel will serve as co-producer for Kingdom Story.

“I love this era,” said Gunn. “The defiant search for truth, the fight against oppression, the hope for a better future in the midst of social turmoil. In that way, it’s not unlike our world today. And I couldn’t be more excited to work with Jim and Joel to tell this honest, captivating story that will serve as a powerful reminder that radical love really can change the world.”

“This is a fascinating true story about how young people gravitated towards a spiritual movement that erupted during a time that our country was being torn apart and couldn’t be more divided,” added the Erwin Brothers. “Its themes are just as timely and topical today as they were in the late ’60s.”

Gaffigan, a multiple-Grammy nominee, Daytime Emmy winner, and New York Times best-selling author, was recently seen opposite Ethan Hawke in the Sundance film, Tesla, as well as Amazon’s Troop ZeroAmerican Dreamer, and Super Troopers 2. His online shows, Dinner With the Gaffigans and Let’s Get Cookin’, are currently streaming on YouTube.

Courtney, whose break came as the star of J.J. Abrams’ Super 8, currently stars in Netflix’s The Kissing Booth films. Other credits include AssimilateF*&% the PromThe River Thief, and Dead Eleanor.

Gaffigan is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, UTA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham, while Courtney is with The Gersh Agency, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light.

The first look at The Kissing Booth 2 is finally here!

Fans of the hit Netflix movie and Beth Reekles’ book series have been waiting for a look at The Kissing Booth 2 forever, basically, and now, that moment is here.

Netflix released an image from The Kissing Booth sequel, and in the image, above, we see Elle (Joey King), Lee (Joel Courtney), and Rachel (Meganne Young) walking through the school halls in their uniforms.

In The Kissing Booth 2, Elle and Noah will have to deal with the next big phase of their relationship. Noah is moving across the country for college, while Elle stays behind in California to finish high school. That’s not the only thing the young couple will deal with, though.

According to Netflix, there are some new characters — and possible love interests — that pop up in the lives of Elle and Noah. Will they remain a couple through it all?

That’s what we’ll find out when The Kissing Booth 2 premieres on Netflix on Friday, July 24!  It’s going to be one of the biggest movies of the summer.

Netflix also confirmed Molly Ringwald is back for the sequel, along with King, Elordi, Courtney, and Young, who were mentioned above. Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Taylor Perez also join the cast as Noah and Elle’s new friends, respectively.

Joey King, with the help of all the stars of the Netflix movie, announced the release date for The Kissing Booth 2 in a YouTube live chat. King put together a puzzle that revealed the release date for the new Netflix movie.

Other than the release date announcement, this is the first Kissing Booth promotion we’ve seen in a long time.

We still haven’t seen the trailer for The Kissing Booth 2 yet. Netflix will likely share that as we get closer to the release date of the movie, but we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

Stay tuned for more news about The Kissing Booth 2!

Remember, the movie hits Netflix on Friday, July 24! Don’t miss it!

Joel Courtney Pops the Big Question to His Girlfriend Mia Scholink with a Gigantic Sparkler

Wow! Thanks, Diamonds USA!

The Kissing Booth star Joel Courtney is now officially engaged to his girlfriend Mia Scholink. The two who have been dating for a while now got engaged on Valentine’s Day. It was while self-isolating together that Courtney, 24 popped the big question on one knee with a jaw-dropping sparkler and Scholink said yes. The couple got engaged.

While happy lip locked pictures of the two splashed all over social media on the following weeks, Scholink’s engagement ring too got a fair share of the attention. It appears that Courtney took a lot of care and attention in selecting the sparkler.

The ring the Netflix Movie Kissing Booth star proposed with is a diamond ring from the house of an online diamond giant. The ring features a gigantic oval cut diamond which is flanked on two sides by two a set of smaller stones, possibly diamonds that adorn the band shanks. The ring features an elegant split shoulder designed, adorned on alternately with tiny diamonds. The stones are set on a sleek yellow gold band.

Courtney turned to Instagram to share the news with his fans. “I like it, so I just had to go and put a ring on it. Stay tuned! Sooooooo much more to come!!!” A day later, Courtney followed up the post with more. He wrote “Like I said, so much more to come!!! This woman right here, lemme tell you a lil bit about her. She is kind, patient, hysterical, forgiving, so beautiful she makes my heart stop, honest, and joyful. I love you @mia_scholink and I am so blessed to have you as my fiancé.”

Scholink’s announcement of the engagement on Instagram read, “ENGAGED to my best friend!!! Can't wait to marry you”.

A close up of the ring surfaced on Mia Scholink’s Instagram profile in a picture of the two holding hands. The ring, viewed from top appears both intricate and delicate. While the center stone shines abundantly, the tiny accent stones on the sides give the bling band a shine factor which leavens up the aesthetics further. The delicate split shoulder band gives the ring a nice eye design at the center of which the diamond sparkles mightily. From what it appears, the stone must be over 4 carats.

Hope a wedding is in works.
