UPI: 'The Kissing Booth' to have Netflix sequel

Popular Netflix movie The Kissing Booth is getting a sequel.

The streaming company confirmed Thursday it is developing a follow-up to the romantic comedy starring Joey King, Joel Courtney and Jacob Elordi.

Netflix shared a promo video on its See What's Next official Twitter account. The clip shows Elle Evans (King) and Lee Flynn (Courtney) building a booth with the sign "Kissing Booth 2."

King confirmed the news in an Instagram post Thursday.

"YUP!!! WE ARE GETTING A SEQUEL!!! @thekissingboothnetflix," the 19-year-old actress wrote.

Courtney also shared the news in a post on his own account.

"Sooooo ITS HAPPENING!!!!!!" he wrote.

The Kissing Booth is based on the Beth Reekles novel of the same name, which follows best friends Elle and Lee. The original movie premiered on Netflix in May and co-starred Molly Ringwald.

It’s Directed by Vince Marcello and Produced by Ed Glauser, Andrew Cole-Bulgin, Vince Marcello and Michelle Weisler. The Kissing Booth movie based on Wattpad story, written by author Beth Reekles in 2011 and it’s won a Watty Award for “Most Popular Teen Fiction” in Wattpad annual writing contest. It’s published by Penguin Random House.

The Kissing Booth music is given by Patrick Kirst and edited by Paul Millspaugh. It’s made in Production house Komixx Entertainment. It stars Joey king as Elle Evans, Joel Courtney as Lee Flynn, Jacob Elordi as Noah Flynn and Molly Elordi as Mrs. Flynn. The film shot in some places of Los Angeles, California, Cape Town(South Africa) and in the University of Cape Town(UCT).

The movie plot starts with two best friends Elle Evans(Joey King) and Lee Flynn(Joel Courtney) with Noah Flynn(Jacob Elordi) Lee’s older brother. In school there’s a lot of encounter between Elle and Noah, Noah even told other guys not to date Elle.

In school carnival, Elle and Lee create a Kissing Booth and it’s a success. Elle set up to kiss a nerdy guy with blindfold but Noah interferes causing Elle to kiss him. After cleaning up, Elle found Noah flirting with another girl and she ran away. While on her way to home Noah offers her a ride on a motorcycle as its raining but the rain started getting heaving, made them stop and sheltered at the bandstand in the park.

Elle kiss Noah again but Noah refuses and later she kissed him again and he gave up. Noah tells her that he likes her. The next day in school party, Elle get harassed by Warren and Noah requests her to get sit in his car and takes her to the Hollywood sign where they confess about liking each other and end up having sex.

Both start seeing each other but don’t tell anyone even Lee. Noah reveals Elle of going to Harvard next year which make her sad. Lee asked her about being sad but she told nothing which him suspicious. Lee one day found Elle and Noah kissing and leaves, Elle tells Noah to leave her alone.

Lee starts giving Elle silent treatment and Noah being missing. On prom, Noah asks her what she decided but Elle doesn’t answer him. Next day at the birthday party, Elle missed Noah and decide to leave but Lee stops her and takes her to the airport to find Noah.

On their way, she starts telling him how she feels about Noah but later finds out it’s not Lee but Noah in Lee’s costume. Elle and Noah start spending time together before leaving for college and when he leaves, Elle thinks if they will be together in future or not but her heart always belongs to Noah. Elle states in the end that everything happened story with the Kissing Booth.

On review, the movie holds the approval rating of 13% by Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 3.7/10. The Kissing Booth movie was one of the most watched movies in the country and maybe in the world told by CCO Ted Sarandos.

We hope “The Kissing Booth 2” movie be as good as The Kissing Booth or even get more popularity than the first.

The Florida Oracle: Kissing Booth 2 Teaser Reunites Joey King & Joel Courtney for More Netflix Fun

Netflix has announced that The Kissing Booth 2 is officially happening. The streaming platform released a teaser video to get fans excited for the sequel, and it appears to have worked. Last year's adaptation of Beth Reekles was a huge success for Netflix, though it was panned by critics and currently holds a 13% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The streaming giant's CCO Ted Sarandos called the first installment "one of the most-watched movies in the country, and maybe in the world."

Netflix claims that one in three viewers has re-watched The Kissing Booth, which is 30% higher than their normal average of repeat viewings. With that kind of success, it seems like a no-brainer to have the original cast return for The Kissing Booth 2. Vince Marcello (Teen Beach Movie) returns to direct the sequel from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jay Arnold. The project is being produced by Marcello, Michele Weisler, Andrew Cole-Bulgina, and Edward Glauser.

At this point in time, no story details have been announced as of this writing, bit it is imagined that The Kissing Booth 2 will have a similar premise to the original. The first movie focuses on two best friends, Elle Evans (Joey King) and Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) who have a lot of rules about their friendship. Elle starts dating Lee's older brother Noah (Jacob Elordi), which is a violation of rule number 9: relatives totally off limits. The romantic teen comedy unravels from there and gets even more complicated when the duo decides to start a kissing booth for a school carnival.

Beth Reekles' 2011 young adult novel The Kissing Booth was originally published on Wattpad, which is an online community for readers and writers to publish user-generated stories in different genres. The story won the Watty Award for Most Popular Teen Fiction in Wattpad's annual writing contest and by 2012, the story had amassed over 19 million views. In 2013, the story was published by Penguin Random House and became a big seller, which is how Netflix came on board to adapt her original story. It isn't clear if Reekles will be involved with The Kissing Booth 2 at this time.

While Netflix touts The Kissing Booth as a great streaming success, the movie was torched by critics, with many calling it sexist and a few noting that it is a "regressive look at relationships that highlights the worst impulses of the genre." The movie and book have been criticized for being too cliché and too predictable, but the streaming platform saw huge numbers when they released it back in May 2018. There is no release date set for The Kissing Booth 2, but Netflix is confident that it will be just as big, if not bigger, than the first installment. The 2018 film was an adaptation of Beth Reekles novel, which, according to variety, was originally self-published on a digital platform.

The sequel will be produced by Marcello and Michele Weisler who also helmed the first film.

The media-services provider is likely to release the film in 2020.

MTV: Watch The Kissing Booth Stars Playfully Announce The Sequel To The Hit Movie

The Kissing Booth is coming back for round two! A sequel to last May's beloved YA rom-com about love, friendship, and loyalty is officially in the works.

Much like their To All The Boys sequel announcement, Netflix enlisted the movie's stars Joey King and Joel Courtney for a video confirming the continuation of Elle and Lee's saga. In the video — which dropped on Valentine's Day — the duo's lifelong friendship is on full display as they playfully build another kissing booth. Check it out below.

King and Courtney will be back for the sequel, as will Jacob Elordi, who played Elle's love interest and Lee's cool older brother, Noah. Also returning is director Vince Marcello, who will be writing the screenplay along with Jay Arnold.

Marcello adapted the first movie from Beth Reekles's self-published novel of the same name. There is no published sequel, so at this point, we can only imagine how the story continues. Where we last left off, Elle and Lee were back to being best friends after Lee had accepted that Elle and Noah's feelings for each other weren't going to magically disappear. But time wasn't on the couple's side — they only had a few short weeks left together before Noah was off to college.

The Kissing Booth 2 is currently in production at Netflix.
